Absolutely, xenophobia is common in many countries. What is unique about the United States is that it IS a country of immigrants, so it is incredibly hypocritical to be anti-immigrant. Xenophobia and the bigotry it spawns is never ethically acceptable, but no nation in the world has less of an excuse for it than the United States. The primary point of my article was to illustrate that this anti-immigrant sentiment is not new, not a by product of recent politics as some people are saying.
