As I wrote in an article last December, atheism is simple-minded dogmatism--it's an ideology that attempts to silence discussion and exploration.

Thank you for sharing your personal journey. I grew up in Minnesota and wanted to be a scientist until discovering philosophy and history of religion in university and have not looked back. The universe is so much more delightfully deep and complex than most people in STEM appreciate.
