Belief in a hypothesis is a matter of faith. Still abiding by an approach to knowledge that, as you admit, has never proven anything, is the very definition of faith. Faith is not some sort of opposite of knowledge. Knowledge is nothing but what we believe, and every belief we hold to be true we believe on faith. That doesn’t diminish us or our knowledge.
