Both statements are true and not at all conflicting. For example, everyone who grew up in Minnesota has a lived experience different from everyone who grew up in Florida, but also each individual in either state has their unique set of experiences, perceptions, feelings, and thoughts. It is important to consider distinctions on both the microsocial and mesosocial levels. Denying either level of differentiation and distinction detracts from our understanding of people. Also consider that because of social norms that discriminate on the basis of race, a nonwhite person will have a different experience than a white person even if all else is equal in their lives. The mesosocial realities affect the individual, and therefore, we can't deny that nonwhites have a different lived experience than white people.
