Consider this: Modernity generates a sense of loneliness because it fosters distrust for anything but a static authoritarian hierarchy of what we are to think and feel. Modernity fosters distance rather than trust because it centralizes a pre-packaged version of truth that should not be questioned. Indeed, modernity generates a distrust of anyone who questions or explores beyond a narrow circle of social norms. Thus, modernity distances us from each other because we are not allowed to converse and play freely.
