Excellent article, much needed. The problem is humans set up a set of norms as to how people should be and behave and grant people recognition only if they conform to the norms. Some norms are constructive, but others do no more than appeal to a false sense of normality. So we erect labels like "man" and "woman," load them up with stereotypes, then demand people conform to them. As you expertly argue, we are raised to see the stereotypes as "normal" and trained to fear anything outside if them.
