Faith is not the opposite of reason. Faith, when you look at its traditional meaning, is confidence in tradition and authority. Reason, again when you look at its traditional meaning, is confidence in one's own capacities to know truth. Centuries ago, there was a conflict between do we need to listen to authorities or can we discover truths ourselves. Today, when we see faith and reason as mutually supportive--listening and learning while critically thinking--we come to truth.
