Thank you for your comments. Indeed, reality is contested, difficult, and at times even dangerous. I don't begrudge people adding some glitz and mystery to stories. As you say, it is a part of who we humans are. This particular subject is a pet peeve of mine because there are untold or lesser told stories in religious history that are so interesting, the story of Phillipe IV being just one. It frustrates me that so little attention is paid to events that were integral to changing history while what are talked about instead instead are fanciful stories without much credence. Made up reality is fine for novels and movies, but not for covering up actual history. Just my opinion, of course, and I admit I am probably a minority in that. :)
