I agree with everything you say, though I will point out that it is impossible to separate capitalism from the political or vice-versa. But then, I don’t equate politics with the kabuki theater of political parties, but the mechanisms of social power, what Marx called the “superstructure.” The economic system necessarily creates a political system. That’s why I totally agree with you that the answer is (in part) switching to a new energy system, because the fossil fuel system has created the political system that we have today.
