I am also a phenomenologist, in both internal and external explorations. Ego is not the same as self. Daoism also speaks of letting go of what the West calls “ego,” but that is not a denial of self. True, thoughts are not absolute, but they are also no illusions. AS you wisely say, character is developed and shaped through thinking.
