I am deeply conflicted on the policy of open borders. My idealism supports it and would love to see a world where there is total freedom of movement. But I concede that a state has defensible reasons to have border controls. I suspect a blend of controls and freedoms as a balance will emerge over time. Living in the Schengen Area, I love that I can get on a train and travel to two dozen other countries with ease. But travel to and living/working in a country are two different issues, and I they deserve different sets of regulations.
