Understanding reality and how we perceive it is crucial to that task.
I too find logical positivism repulsive, and I have a strong aversion to most analytical philosophy. This is a field that too often ignores most of the history of philosophy and denies much of human experience. The logical positivists were definitely the low point, but I still encounter people who haven't learned the lesson that positivism failed and still fails to accomplish anything meaningful.
