Identity politics is sometimes a distraction and sometimes is the real issue. Racism and sexism are identity politics: "Blacks are violent and stupid," "women are weak and irrational" are expressions of identity politics.
Power hierarchies are identity politics. Responding to the power hierarchies with more identity politics is an understandable response, but can, as I say in the article, only make limited legal gains. Real and lasting change can only come, again as I say in the article, from changing the awareness and convictions of individual people.
That's what this movie shows. And again, as I said, "Its message will be lost on many people not yet open to their own self and agency." And they will refuse to open their eyes and make up excuses to blame others for their own closed-mindedness.
P.S. - It is the "kids of gen Z" who are the "smiling, profit driven ..." people you are deriding in your last sentence.
