It can't be programmed, no, though not sure I agree with your statement that the aware Self is impersonal by definition. I understand the argument, and it is commonly made in philosophy, but it seems to me to miss the point of consciousness, that with it comes free will. With free will, we have the ability to choose how we approach and consider our Self. We can choose to be impersonal toward our Self, but we can choose to be personal toward our Self. For some philosophers, that is the difference between authentic and inauthentic existence.
