As a philosopher of race, I find one of the most difficult tasks is describing the constellation of norms that make up hierarchical social relations and their connected stereotypes. We easily recognize the overt instances of racism, but by their nature, it's much more difficult to discern the pervasive ambient presence of racial norms.
