Thank you for this wonderfully thoughtful response. I agree with you on both points: postmodernism is valid and profound and it has reached a dead end. And yes, I think much of the problem is the hang ups with language. The shadow of analytical philosophy and their idolization of logic still holds sway over the postmoderns. Bertrand Russell wanted to create a “logical atomism” of language in which our every word corresponded with a tangible object/doing in the material world. Wittgenstein showed that such a project was impossible and Russell eventually abandoned the idea, and yet it still seems to hold thrall. I completely agree with you that the conflation of language and truth is still there.

What you say about the conflation trickling down into culture in an unclear way is so true. The postmodernists question but do not supply solutions, and worse, too many of them think they should not offer solutions. What they also conflate, in my opinion, is the rejection of dogma with nihilism. They seem to miss the obvious fact that there is a lot of territory between those extremes. I sense you are thinking along those lines. As you put it, they see everything as mere opinions. So yes, they deliver to the public nothing but questions and sneering at conventions without offering any alternatives. I am with you in calling for a new orientation to replace the old dogma. We need to stop beating the dead horse of modernism and get on with it.

You should write down your ideas. Have you seen that I am starting a new philosophy publication on Medium? https://medium.com/original-philosophy/call-for-submissions-to-a-publication-that-welcomes-original-philosophy-e0866a126a20 I want to give an open forum to ideas such as yours and spark discussion.
