I love what you say about the need for intellectuals to share the reality of their lives. You put your finger on one of the main reasons I semi dropped out of academia — the academics didn’t want to connect their scholarship with their personal lives and selves. They pretended they didn’t influence each other and I find that so silly and self-defeating.
