Thank you for your insightful comments. Buddhism is not monolithic, so there are a number of interpretations of basic concepts. What I perhaps was not clear enough in explaining is that the video to which I was responding was referencing a central concept within early Buddhism. That was notable in this era of New Age pop spirituality that has turned Buddhism into a practice of stress management. So, I believe in all intellectual honesty, that I am arguing against a core tenant of original Buddhism, and believe that the earliest canon bears that out.
