Thank you for your response, especially because it allows me to better explain one of my points. Buddhism has a quite large number of philosophical schools and not all of them agree with a strict interpretation of "all thoughts are illusions." The current Dalai Lama once explained that what the concept really means is the idea that our thoughts are permanent is mistaken--that is the illusion. That ability to be able to let go of negative thoughts, to not let them rule you is the key to a good life.

Part of why Buddhism has thrived as a philosophy is because it allows for and largely welcomes dialogue over interpretations of its key concepts. That's why I objected to some celebrity rattling off the glib comment, "I realized all my thoughts are illusions, and that was the answer." Nonsense. Answers and wisdom are far more complex.

And "all my thoughts are illusions" is self-contradictory. Western pop-psychology nonsense.
