That is so good to hear, Miriam. Your message is a positive affirmation for me. I taught for years on my MA and being in higher education meant I was looked down on. I wanted to do the PhD for me, and it has helped me in a number of ways, but I still reject the arrogance of people in my profession. As soon as I earned my PhD I realized that I could do more outside the profession. Having a PhD or a fancy position at a fancy university doesn’t change the world. As you say, writing changes the world. No, one doesn’t need special credentials for that. I am confident what you have done to help students has positively affected the world more than what most PhDs have ever done. As for doubt, I still doubt myself frequently. Maybe because I care to do my best, maybe because of childhood traumas, maybe because so many people still look down on me. Definitely all of those.
