That's a good overview of Horkheimer, but I agree with Axel Honneth who said of Horkheimer's and Adorno’s approach

excludes any factors that do not stand in a more or less direct relation to the process of technical rationalization in the historical process in which totalitarianism emerges. Thus as much as Horkheimer and Adorno take account of developments such as the mass media, and as much as they take pains to account for psychic dispositions, their analysis of these events is always limited to discovering only further forms of a totalitarian form of reason.
