The Bananas Absurdity of Bro-Capitalism

It’s not about money, art, or bananas

Source unknown, though no one’s monetized the image; must be that evil socialism

A recent headline caught my eye.

Cryptocurrency investor buys a controversial duct-taped banana for $6.2M at auction — and plans to eat it.

Sure enough, said investor did allegedly eat said banana artwork. Allegedly; bananas don’t age well. Was it really the same banana? But conspiracy theories are for another time and place.

If said investor was making a pointed statement about the absurdity of modern art, that would make at least some sense. Duct-taping an object, any object, to a wall is not art, not even in the most expansively Derridean deconstruction of artistic meaning.

Said investor wasn’t making a critique or philosophical statement. Instead, he was being a bro. Specifically, he’s a crypto bro. I wrote about them before.
