The concept of a detached-from-the-world Cartesian subject has been rejected, but Descartes' project of looking at experience has been the basis of nearly all philosophy since Descartes. The contents of consciousness is likewise strongly influential in most philosophy, most notably in the successful strategy of phenomenology--so successful it has spread beyond philosophy into all social sciences.
