It really is true that there was an American Nazi party. It really happened that there was a Nazi rally in Madison Square Garden. Donald Trump recently tried to emulate that rally. Man-child Trump, looks admiringly on these real fascists.

It is important to remember that there is nothing new in Trump and the MAGA movement. They are just the latest manifestation of a constant thread of right-wing politics in the US.

The United States has always had a hard-Right wing seeking a two-tiered society. For example, before World War II, the United States had a branch of Germany’s Nazi party, the German American Bund. Its zenith was a 1939 Nuremberg-style rally of 20,000 supporters at Madison Square Garden in New York City. A movie of the rally, still existing today, shows Nazi swastikas side by side with American flags, and center stage, an enormous portrait of George Washington portrayed in his military uniform, his whole body surrounded by a white light as though he was about to ascend into heaven. — Why Trump?
