There are more and less advanced topics in any field, mathematics and philosophy included. There is room for books on all levels. I can’t embrace your label of “recreational” philosophy. There are perhaps books out there that could be fit under that label, I can think of a few, and my opinion of them is very low. I am not thinking of or offering books for entertainment purposes. I will give this analogy. There are books about using practical math in everyday life, demonstrating how mathematics is relevant to people’s lives and can solve real world problems. I write philosophy books for that niche. Philosophy matters, not obscure complex stuff like Gettier problems or virtue-theoretic accounts of transmissive knowledge. I write books and articles demonstrating how philosophy is relevant to people’s lives and can solve real world problems. The problem publishers and publicists have is they do not understand such demonstrations are possible and are too narrow-minded to try to understand.
