Trump & Project 2025 Would Want to Ban My Textbook and My Profession
An issue that’s important to me and future students
There are many reasons I’m voting for Kamala Harris, but I’m going to talk about an issue that has fallen by the wayside. That issue is academic freedom in higher education. That few people talk about it is understandable given the immediate dire threats to the lives of women and ethnic minorities, among other issues. Defending people from those threats is a very good reason to vote for Harris and “down ballot” Democrats, Defending education is another, and it’s an issue dear to me because teaching is my trade and life’s calling. My profession as a philosophy professor is also under threat from the right wing.
Perhaps I will fall under the radar of the right wing and their agenda to outlaw academic freedom. I’m Nobody. Dr. Nobody from my degree, Professor Nobody based on my title. But I’m still a nobody because I’m not a professor at a big well-known school such as Legacy Admissions University or University of Football. But if the agenda of Project 2025, funded by the same people who fund Trump, is brought into legal and political force, they will be willing to stop my philosophy course and the textbook I wrote.
