We definitely can’t read everything and do need to be selective. What you say is a part of it. I think another part is the pressure to have a fear of missing out, by which I mean that some people are reluctant to spend the time to really take in content because a portion of the way in they get antsy that if they spend more time they will miss some other piece of content elsewhere. So they jump from one thing to the next thing constantly, never seriously taking in anything.
