What matters is the power behind fear and hatred. Mingus (https://insertphilosophyhere.com/charles-mingus-creativity/) would confess that it was the prejudice he received from whites that had more power to affect his life. That differential in social power is because of the structures of power in society. As I wrote in my article, those structures matter a lot because they enable or prevent individual action. Thus, that difference between one person’s bigotry and another person’s bigotry often comes down to the recognition norms in that society that either allows or suppresses that person’s bigotry.
