While capitalism is strongly connected with mass production, the latter is not the foundational attribute of the former. First and foremost, capitalism is about control of the modes of production, regardless of the scale of production. Capitalism necessarily trends toward greater concentration of power, which has increased scale of production as a means of concentrated economic power. Technology is a tool of the capitalist approach, as is everything. Technology in itself is neutral, can can be used just as successfully within free enterprise approaches as it can be within the capitalist approach. The point being that technology does not inevitably lead to capitalism or mass production, both being free will choices of individuals and society at large.
