You are correct in calling this piece "in a textbook sort of way." That was my intention and why I called it an "etude." An etude as a musical composition is not meant to be as melodic of aesthetically pleasing as a freer composition. This is a textbook reference study.

On the public-private distinction: I maintain that the only actions that can be considered private are those that have zero effects on others. Part of my intention with this etude is to dispel the myth that economic activity is exempt from moral responsibility. One could say that whether I eat my sandwich with my left or right hand is a private action of no consequence for anyone else, but one could not say that how one procured that sandwich has no effects on others. For that reason, it is illegitimate to claim a realm of private economic activity exempt fro moral consideration.
