You are correct, this issue has very deeply concerning implications. I think this is at the core of social life.

I didn't mention Kahneman in this short essay, but I did in the "lazy thinking" article to which I linked at the end. His theory was definitely in my mind on this one.

It is dystopian, but corporatism, including the tech bros trying to push AI on us, is trying to diminish independent thinking. This is discussed in academia, but nowhere near enough. Education majors tend to buy into the dystopian model of training people to not think independently.
